I asked a question in the "Post Installation" forum, because I've already installed Drupal and had a question about it. http://drupal.org/node/259489
But maybe the question really belongs here, because I should have asked it before installing Drupal.
I think maybe you can divide CMS products into two kinds of piles. One variety is oriented towards news, the other is more oriented towards information. Like the difference between a magazine and a book.
I have been learning drupal 6 for a few days, and looking into developing a new commercial website with it.
However, i realize that D6 is not really very developed yet, and I'm having quite alot of difficulties looking for tutorials and documentations to learn about it. On the other hand, D5 is already very developed. However, even with this well-established module platform in D5, I forsee that I will be adding in quite a lot of self-written codes to customize my website. I will be updating and maintaining it quite often as well.
I am playing around with D for a few days now.
I see that version 6 has not many modules yet, most of them only work with D5.
In particular, CCK seems to me a module that powers most of advanced uses of Drupal and it is not available for D6 yet.
(when I run CCK-a-alpha I get a lot of error messages and some things do not work)
It seems DST was not considered at all. Am I just missing an obvious module?
I was up until 4:30am one morning searching modules and building my first Drupal site, then I crashed into a MASSIVE wall. I found that a new "Event" was off by 1 hour and dg\igging around for hours finding random patches some folks thought might work.
So I am looking to make my own site, it will be documenting my sailing trip circumventing the world. I have no experience with any sort of web development but need a tool to do it my self or with one other person. Drupal seems like a good option. I features I defiantly need are: blog, forum, advertising, community sign up, and possible e-commerce, among others.
