I've been using Joomla for about 5 years now and feel pretty comfortable building sites with it.
I feel quite confident using html/css and have started picking up some techniques with jquery. But i've not really played around with php yet. I've made tiny modifications to php in the past, but i certainly can’t write any complex code. However I don't want this to continue, I intend to teach myself php (lynda.com course et al).
I am planning to use durpal 7x and ubercart to build an ecommerce site, would anyone please show me how to create product categories in drupal.
Also, if later I expand my product line and would like to merge certain sub-categories. Do i have to move one product at a time or I can move the whole sub-category to another top-category with a few clicks.
Can someone recommend me what kind of server platform I should use to install drupal: LAMP, MAMP, etc. I know Drupal 7 requires mysql 5.0.15, so I will most likely install this version or higher. In addition to this, what other things would I need to install, and is there a guide I can follow (from setting up the server, to installing drupal)?
I'm fairly new to Drupal, and am interested to know what kind of modules one could recommend. I have a situation where a select group of people need to register/input their email addresses. Then when a secretary makes an update to a Drupal page, the info on that page needs to be sent to the select group of people.
I found an email validator that would make sure that only people with a certain kind of email address can input their email addresses: http://drupal.org/project/email
I'm under the impression that the somewhat mandatory modules for D7 are not yet stable. Are many of you working in D7 already? Any opinions on whether to use to 6 instead of 7?
I want build accommodation booking system in Drupal 7 for young people travelling abroad.
Basic process is as follows:
1. Host families register on site.
2. Admin posts task/project/requirement for families to host 1 or more students for a period (days/weeks) on specific dates.
3. Family (or families) bid/request to host student/s
4. Admin selects/elects family who 'wins' the task/project/requirement
5. The dates on their availability calendar are blocked out
