i am a newbi so do not bear with me! I run a linux sever that is administered by a friend of me. He prepares the chown and permissins - with the setgit-bit to on.
Well the trouble is that i get lost the setgitbit every time when i touch the permissions with FileZilla. That is the terrible issue! Note - at the moment i do not have a access to the server wit WinSCP - winscp can set the Setgit. Filezilla cannot do this at all!

I would like to build a site, which basically should consist of views to a database-scheme I have in my head.
It consists of entries, which are linked in n:m-relationships to some categories and things like that.
Now I would like a tool, where I can easily enter a table-stucture, and then build a form for entering entries (fetching foreign keys from the database and showing them e.g. as drop-down box).
Does something like this exist?
Is it possible with drupal, or can you maybe point to other tools?
I have a small, but pretty static .html site I want to install Drupal 7.10 on. I want the static site to run while I configure the Drupal site. When I'm happy with it I'll delete the html files and run Drupal. What is the best course of action for this?
I did a bit of searching in hopes to find the answer and the suggestion is install in a subdirectory and then move to root when ready. I saw many threads where people received errors when doing this that I might not be able to fix.
There are an affiliation of schools whose students write final report projects on certain health topics. I'd like to build a database for these documents that track the school (as well as independent non-affiliated people/schools), the researcher, topics/subjects/specificiticies. Is there a theme or profile or something geared to something like this ?
I realize you must get a thousand of these topics, and for that I apologize. In short, I read the "Is Drupal right for you?" documentation, and I really liked the emphasis on flexibility. It has that "You can do anything you can imagine" feel to it, which appeals to me. However, I'm worried that I'm biting off more than I can chew.
I'm working on a project for my Master's class. I need some guidance on how to implement the following features.
1) Website registration system with Facebook/Twitter integration (users can use their FB/Twitter instead of choosing username etc if they wish)
2) A database of products
3) product rating system including comments for registered users
Currently for the alpha version of the site I'm using cold fusion to list the products but that's with me entering them one by one. I'd like to create a wiki style where users can add products to keep the site update.
