Before you start

Greetings,

I am looking for a new platform to replace my Joomla platform as it is causing me a great deal of grief. I am unsure however how to figure out if my host will work or not. I am using Hostmonster. Does anyone know if Drupal will work properly on that host?

I'm also wondering if there is any way to import a current website into the new platform.

A am a newbie in CMS websites though I have known both drupal and wordpress for long enough to have my own hosted blogs. Now I want to try something new... I want to have a website with a static page with slots/forms just like search bars where my viewers can enter specific datas to get relevant informations in return (database). I know I can program and design such a site with postgresSQL but is it readily possible in drupal using some addons????

e-commerce portal

i want to create a page which have two columns(left and right). Left columns have category list with check box and right columns have the result. when any one check the category check box then result show in right columns.

Please suggest me how to do this.

I need some tips, tricks and best practices as well best standard modules for our homepage.
Background:
We have for our brass band a homepage based on Drupal 6 since app. 2008. It wasn't maintained very well in the last years (no new content, articles).
Also the time changed in the last years, some members of the brass band are communicating on Facebook (also topics regarding our brass band). On the other side some members are using the internet and have an e-mail address but reject Feacebook.
