Drupal Questions

I have only used Mambo/Joomla! and have found it really doesn't suit my needs for a community. I have a few questions about Drupal.

1. Looking at the available designs they all look very simple. Can you create very complex designs? Any examples of a really advanced design on Drupal?
2. In Mambo/Joomla! content goes on a section - category - content scale. Is Drupal the same?
3. When viewing content does it come up in a blog style as it does in Mambo/Joomla!?
4. Are there add ons for Drupal?

Taxonomy for beginners!

Hi, here is a IRC log from #drupal-support about using taxonomy. Probably a lot of people will find this usefull:

[15:37] Without using taxonomy, I shoudl still be able to create a fairly static website with menus right?
[15:38] yes.
[15:39] taxonomy confuses me
[15:39] whats the purpose besides making categories for blog topics
[15:40] rump: organizing, categorizing nodes
[15:41] so i get terms
[15:41] but why the vocabulary
[15:41] rump: well, first of all, how many terms are you gonna use?
[15:41] i never know what to put for vocab
[15:41] what's a "category" vs. a "blog topic"
[15:42] "Blog Topics" => Name of Vocab
[15:42] "Monkeys" => Name of Term within "Blog Topics" Vocab
[15:42] well, say i want to categorize animals
[15:42] animals that are warm blooded
[15:42] animals that are primates
[15:42] animals that eat fruit
[15:43] can one node belong to all of these
[15:43] of course.
[15:43] and across multiple vocabs?
[15:43] http://www.disobey.com/node/1693 is a blog post that has 5 terms: Words: adware | Disobey Nonsense Network | Firefox | google | winer
[15:43] yes again, sure.
[15:43] or not. entirely up to you.
[15:44] rump: facets are not hierarchical, that's the idea

Annoying password email

Hallo everyone,
Im a new drupal user.
its great. i must say.
but only one problem. There is a very annoying password email when registering. but i want to disable this so users can give passwords directly when registering. is it possible.
is their module for this?

Drupal and EE

So I was using Expression Engine for a while, but would like to switch to Drupal for my blogging and content management needs.

Has anyone who reads or looks around here migrated from Drupal to EE? Is there a way to port my content easily? Or if I want to do this, is this so complicated I might want to pay someone to do the work?

Thanks,

khalil

Help with setting up Drupal

Hi
I'm new to drupal so forgive me if these questions are obvious or seem incompetent.
- I want to integrate Drupal with Gallery2.1 (when it is released). Are there any projects concerning this integration and where can i find it?
- I love the drupal install that is used on the Gallery official site (http://gallery.menalto.com/). I've tried to find the module (plug in?) they use on the site for sigining into your account when you want to reply to a forum thread. I think it uses AJAX of somesort. Try it yourself and see... just go to the forums area and try to reply to a topic (don't be signed in).
- As i'm only begining with Drupal, i'm finding it really hard to customize the installs so that it matches the theme of my site. Is there an advantage/disadvantage of using themes that use tables instead of CSS? Is there an easier way of editing CSS files instead of coding by hand? Any tips or tricks that you guys think i should know about editing/creating CSS theme files?
- The people reading this probally get the idea i'm a "no0b" at Drupal, so is there any document (besides the documentation on this site) that outlines how to edit themes without breaking your Drupal install in laymen terms?
- One last question: On this site, when i click on the forum link it brings me to a page that lists all the forums and threads etc. How is this done? Is this a seperate component?

System Requirements

No, really... Will Drupal run on a system with PHP 4.3.2? My new host has this version running. Am I going to have to dump them?

Also, since the big goal is to upgrade all my sites to the latest, what are the exact system requirements of 4.7?

Thanks for the help...
