Hello,
I'm looking to create an online community where each user will have the opportunity to create their own webpage under their own subdomain. Having spent a few hours playing with Drupal and reading the forums and guides on here, it seems to me that this is possible with Drupal.
The way I would like it to work would be to have the main domain as a portal where members can get news, find other users, access a forum and so on. Each subdomain would have a basic website set-up with a range of templates for the member to choose from, as well as offering them content management so as that they can design their site as they would like it. Permissions would need to be set so that only the correct member can edit their own particular sub-domain.
The idea is that someone with no coding knowledge can very quickly get their site up and running and then as they progress can develop their site further. It would be good if certain types of content could be centralised at the portal - for instance, members could choose to put pictures from their own site onto the main gallery at the portal and then links could take viewers to that particular site.
I realise that this will take a little work, and I have years of SQL experience and am pretty good with PHP, so that side should not be a problem.
