how to customize user login box

I've had good luck customizing the look/feel of my Drupal site (http://www.twincitiesvfp.org/teachpeace) using CSS and by modifying the templates for a xtemplate design.

The problem I have is that I can't find a way to modify the text header color of the Navigation block, which replaces the user/login block, without also changing the header color of the user/login block, because they use the exact same CSS ids/classes.

[Advice/Input] Drupal as a book creation tool

Building books with Drupal

Your input/Advice/Experience requested

I have a university client where many departments and internal personel contribute to the creation of a printed student handbook. One central administrator would edit, approve and publish all of the content as it comes in and when all of the sections are finished it would all be exported via XML for placement into a page layout application.

Some questions about themes...

(not sure if this is better here or in the themes dev forum, but...)

I'm just getting started with drupal, got it all up & running for development purposes (php, apache2, drupal 4.5.1).

I'm a little puzzled about how I get some new themes available. The manual says I can just untar them into the themes subdirectory and drupal wll auto-detect it. But that's not happening. I've added about 4 themes to the directory and none of them show up. Do I need to restart apache/php, or is drupal supposed to auto-detect every time you go to the Administer | Themes page?

What Files / Modules affect Cookies / Sessions?

Hi all,

I am running 4.5.0 but have swapped user.module for the new 4.5.1 before i go through the whole upgrade (it's a custom system and that will take a while)

I am getting PHPSESSID when browsing with cookies off (so bots r getting that 2) which is bad bad bad! :)

What files/modules or php settings might i have to look at to track down why this is happening?

many thanks...

People, places, things, events, ideas

Perhaps some of you remember about a decade ago, when Apple was working on what was supposed to be the replacement to the crufty old Macintosh System (we didn't even call it MacOS back then), a sort of Finder successor (I think) was codenamed "People, Places, Things." This was clever, because it suggested what we want to use computers for, not how we use them.

Looking at CMSs today, I see much the same thing. The end purpose for a CMS is to organize people, places, things, events, and most importantly, ideas.

How can Drupal give users the most power to organize these?

cvs search engine not saving results page...

Recently, I setup the Drupal cvs so I could better see the path 4.5 would be following. The search engine is a huge improvement and works very well. However, I'm having a problem with the results page. As an example, I run a search for 'software' and Drupal gives me it's results. No problem. I chose one of the results, click the link, and am taken to the page. Again, no problem. However, when I try to go back to the original results page to search among the other results that I received from my search...I get timed out. I get the 'this page cannot be found' page.
