LiveJournal-Like Communities

Hi all. I'm a new Drupal user. I've looked around a bit and I haven't been able to find a module that allows LiveJournal-like communities, i.e. communal, topical blogs that all members can post to, and that anyone can add to their friends list. Does such a module exist?

anyway to make node types display differently?

Im trying to figure out how I can display image nodes completely different from normal nodes.
for example, a blog or story node would be a box displaying title, post info and content.

while i would want a image node to just be a image linked to a page containing more info, body..title..ect.

can this be done?

new search engine in drupal 4.5...no cron run

I spent a good portion of today installing the search engine patch available here http://drupal.org/node/12232. I have no errors, the interface is showing, and I can even look up users. However, I cannot look up content because my cron run is not updating the search index. The cron run works, I'm using poormanscron, but the search index is not updated. Logs are updated. This installation is my 'test' database...an exact copy of my other in which the cron run updates the index on the 'older search engine'.

Using Drupal to Make a Xanga/Livejournal site

Hi,
I run a portal website for a football league for kids. I would like to create an area of the site where they can have their own weblogs and also login. I like how xanga and livejournal do it. Is it possible with Drupal to make a system where users can go in and register without me and then they can get a domain like http://myname.footballdomain.com and also choose templates and such? Something very much like livejournal would be nice--but livejournal is such a pain to deal with and this software is much nicer.

Stupid weblinks.module block question

1. Have you thought of adding a newbie Q&A section?

2. I've got the article weblinks working. I can adjust them just fine. But the blocks are no where to be seen.

My data:
site: http://ransack.foamingmouth.com
PHP 4.3.8
the newest Drupal (downloaded it yesterday), 4.5.0
newest version of weblinks, 4.5.0
All links are in CAACS => Links

Correct Contextlinks Syntax

I'm trying to get the contextlinks plug-in to work. But I am getting the literal test returned on the page.

I have: re-downloaded the module from here, I've re-uploaded it to my site, I've deleted and rebuilt the database table, I've verified that the module is turned ON, I've made sure that it is installed, I've tried pasting in the example from here (http://drupal.org/project/contextlinks), and I've tried saving the story in all three formats (filtered HTML, PHP code, and full HMTL).
