YADB: Buiding with Drupal from the Ground Up

I don’t post as often as I like here at Drupal, but I have been using Drupal the past year for a personal family site. If you read the few posts that I have posted, you know I have a love/hate relationship with Drupal. I like the functionality, but I think sometimes Drupal is a little more difficult to deal with compared with other Web content management systems. Regardless of my opinions, I’m finding that I’m using and recommending Drupal more often than not.

I have a strong interest in Information Systems and have wanted to develop a site focused on CMS for some time now. I’m still working out the concept, but have decided to use Drupal. I decided that I also wanted to keep a blog about my experiences building the site with Drupal 4.7, from start to finish. The blog is not intended to be as much of an interest to developers as it is for system administrators and the average user.

For those interested, the blog is currently being hosted at a site my wife and I just started, called “Like that Idea” ( http://likethatidea.com/category/like-that-software/drupal/ ). Yes, the site is Wordpress, but it meets our needs. Once Drupal is installed at the new site ( cmsreport.com), I’ll also move the blog over there too. I should point out that while the link for cmsreport.com is currently parked at Dakota Hosting (a GoDaddy reseller) the shared hosting plans are not recommended for Drupal. The shared hosting plan lack the MySQL’s Lock Tables privileges needed for properly hosting Drupal. I’m will be using a virtual private (dedicated) servers to run Drupal and some other sites I maintain.

Where is my created contents (book page, story etc)?

I have created book page and also story page. But I cannot view them. Where thye have gone? What is the URL to access them. In some of them I alias URL also. Where to find them, how to access them and how to creat links. I have created block and I can see that, but how can I link it with my created pages.

What is difference between CivicCRM-PHP5-Drupal and CivicCRM-PHP4-Mambo?

I know there are different types of Content Management System CMS. Among them Drupal and Mambo are famous. Bit modified form of Drupal is Civicspace(this what I know.. may be wrong) But I did not understand CivicCRM-PHP5-Drupal and CivicCRM-PHP4-Mambo. Can some one let me know what is the difference and which one is better? And can I use mambo components/themes/module with CivicCRM-PHP4-Mambo?

Export nametags for conference

I'm wondering if anyone else has used Drupal for registration of a conference or another event where nametags were printed from the user information. For an upcoming student conference we are using the export module (http://drupal.org/node/29836) and are pulling photos from the webserver based on their ID. The issue is with printing the photos, as the default profile photo (128x128 @ 72 dpi) is very low quality.
