Drupal sending multiple "From" in welcome email after PHP upgrade

We upgraded our Drupal installation (D7) from PHP V5.4 to V7.0.11. Now when Drupal sends a welcome email there are two "From" headers: noreply@domain.com (correct) and ly@domain.com

The emails are getting rejected because of the multiple "From". We are using the latest D7 modules and the following modules are enabled Mail system, HTML mail, Mime Mail.

if we switch back to older PHP everything works fine.

LDAP authentication was enabled before doing the test, now unable to login with drupal user

LDAP authentication was enabled before doing the test and now unable to login with drupal user - is there a way to get the login using drupal user? Can we update some files from backend to revert the changes related to LDAP Authentication?

Trying out new themes

On an existing, live Drupal site running version 7.59, how can I test various themes?  I want the existing site to continue to look as it does now to visitors, but to be able to see what it would look like with different themes.  Do I need to copy the site over to a test site?  And if so, what's the easiest way to to that?

I realize that there's going an obvious answer to this that I've not thought of, but searching the Drupal site I've not found one.

Thanks very much.

Created content type, set permissions, but no content create menu

I have created a content type and a role with permissions to create content for the content type. After creating an account and logging is as the role created there is no menu or button for creating content for the content type.
