Users, What they can and can't view. Need some advice

I have looked at Joomla and Drupal for a client website.

Joomla cannot do what I want to achieve and I would be interested in feedback to dins out if drupal can do it.

What I need is fairly simple. A Blogging website for students on a course. There are about 50 students, who over the course of a year will blog to the site, based on their coursework.

The difficulty I have is that I want to be able to set up individual blogs that students can post to, but they determine who can subscribe (on an individual bases, or created groups)

Will Drupal Ever Have Template Tags like Joomla 1.5?

I always keep wandering back over to the Drupal camp as CCK really catches my interest. One thing that always keeps me from "switching" is that templating Drupal sounds like an utter pain in the ***. The single most thing I love about Joomla is it's ease of templating using <jdoc> tags. Such as <jdoc:component> and <jdoc:module>. It makes creating templates extremely easy.

So what's the plans on this type of things?

LDAP Data Mappings Not Sticking - SOLVED

Problem: After mapping more than 7 (yours may be a different number) LDAP attributes to Drupal fields, all my fields would disappear.

Solution: Upon inspecting the MySQL database, I noticed the field "ldapdata_mappings" in the "ldapauth" table was type "TINYTEXT". This must have been too small to afford my mappings. Change this to "TEXT" and it should work.
