Drupal 7.x

I posted a bug report about problems with module updates in Drupal 7 (see http://drupal.org/node/955642), which I hope the developers have time to resolve before the final release because I am not sure I can run a live site until it is. In the meantime, as a new Drupal user, I would appreciate some advice from the experts about doing manual updates to the modules. I suppose I am asking what the update procedure is actually doing.

I am very interested in knowing more accurate dates as to when Drupal 7 shall be released.
Also info on the release dates of the new Drupal Commerce extension ( http://www.commerceguys.com/products/drupalcommerce ) would be highly appreciated.

If I'm using fields for user profiles and I'm installing a new site with Drupal 7 (not upgrading from 6) should I disable the "Profiles" module?

I'm working on porting a module to Drupal 7, and I need to be sure that there is at least one field of type 'image' on a content type. The fields I'm looking for are the d7 equivalent of what used to be CCK imagefields. In d6 the module called filefield_get_field_list. But I can't find an equivalent to that in d7. Any ideas would really be helpful. Thanks a lot.

I didn't make any changes and didn't touch the site for a week and now when I try to load the home page, I get this error: Fatal error: Call to a member function getDirectoryPath() on a non-object in /home1/classih1/public_html/drupal/modules/image/image.module on line 809
Any idea what is causing it?
