Help: Drupal is difficult to use for developers new to CMS?

I'm a somewhat experienced administrator (Ubuntu Linux, Apache, MySQL) and developer (Java/Servlet/JSP, C#, C++, PHP, CFM, JavaScript) , but I'm having a really difficult time grasping Drupal.

I read two books in the past 2-weeks or so and tried various examples, but everytime I install a new module or even use some of the existing common ones like CCK, View and Dynamic Display Module, I run into trouble.

My primary issue is I can never seem to find where all the options are and how they fit togheter. Documentation seems non-existant or I haven't been able to find them.

What Event Modules Are Best for What I Need to Do?

I'm new to drupal and unfamiliar with popular modules. What I'm looking to do is create a website where I can have corporate events and user submitted events on a calendar. Additionally I'm looking for the ability to charge for events and even allow the user community to create an event and charge for that event whatever price they are wanting. What modules would work best for what I'm looking for?

Breadcrumb problem with new Drupal 7.x install

When I add a new basic page to my fresh Drupal 7.x site using the default Bartik theme, the breadcrumb always shows "home" instead of the first item in the breadcrumb showing the current main menu.

For example, if I am on "about us" (main menu item)/"about us" node I would expect the first item on the breadcrumb to be "about us". Instead the breadcrumb shows "home".

How do I get the breadcrumb to reflect the current main menu item and current node properly?

Updated to 7.0-beta3 and stuck Offline!

Hi

This is the first time I have upgraded a version of Drupal. (I've done Wordpress before though).

I followed the instructions to do a Minor Version Update 7.0 Beta3 (from Beta2) all the way to checking the Admin > Reports > Status to see if any problems. However, rather than go to Admin > Configuration > development > Maintenance mode to turn site back on, I was tempted by an option to do it on the Report status page. So I clicked it and now the site is stuck offline in Maintenance Mode.

How do I reset it please? Have access to db.

Menus and menu lists

Hi

I have created some Menus in Structure >Menus thinking I could add this to the "tab" when Menu links appear.
I thought that if this happened then any child content items would appear under the menu tab or as menu items in left sidebar.

This does not appear possible - am I missing something about Menus and their structure?

Regards
Craig.

How do you disable a core module using drush_make?

Say that you install Drupal 6 and you want to disable or preferably remove pushbutton or minnelli or the blog module? Would that be possible through overrides in drush_make? Or should I use Features? Alternatively, is there an example for doing this through an installation profile?

Also, when using someone else's installation profile, would you be able to do the same for modules installed by that profile, again preferably through overrides? Or with Features?
