How to call the front page of each language in a multilingual site?

I'm building a multilingual site with Drupal 7 and need to translate a block that appears only on the front page. If <front> is used to refer to the front page in general, how would I refer to the <front> page in different languages? For example - the front page of English (my default), German, or Spanish? I've tried <front>/de for German but it doesn't work... Any ideas?

Submenus of main menu don't show up

Hi,

Just a few days I've started to try and learn drupal because it is faster to create website than the handcoding I'm used to.

However I've already run into a problem: I'm trying to create a submenu from the main menu, however this doesn't work. Not because I misconfigured something (I think), but because the links just don't show up. Can anybody tell me why this is the case?

Or is this not the right use of the main menu and should I put the structure of the website in the navigation menu?

Thanks,

Yorian

Write permission to Files and Directories

I have installed Drupal 7. This is a fresh install on a Ubuntu 10.10 system. I am attempting to upload a new logo and change a color in the Bartik theme.

I am getting errors that I cannot resolve releted to permission setting of files and directories.

"- The specified file themes/bartik/logo.png could not be copied, because the destination directory is not properly configured. This may be caused by a problem with file or directory permissions. More information is available in the system log."

I have attempted to change the color, upload a new logo, change back to the old logo, etc but I am not sure what is going on.

When I look at the Reports inside Drupal I see the following message related to the last attempt to change the color.

Location: http://www.website.com/admin/appearance/settings/bartik?
render=overlay&render=overlay&render=overlay&render=overlay&render=overlay&render=overlay&render=overlay
Referrer: http://www.website.com/admin/appearance/settings/bartik?
render=overlay&render=overlay&render=overlay&render=overlay&render=overlay&render=overlay
Message: The file permissions could not be set on public://color/bartik-625cfda9/colors.css.

I was able to change the color back to the default.

Also, when I attempt to load a new custom logo I entered the following path:

/includes/filetransfer/newlogo.jpg

Search Block disappeared!

I must have deleted my Search block - because it has disappeared from the Blocks lists, but it is still in the Modules. How can I recreate this Search block just as in the original install ? Thanks

CTools plugin example url

The url to the CTools plugin example is
http://localhost/drupal/?q=admin%2Fsettings%2Fctools_plugin_example&
both in the admin-menu and the administration page

This results in a WSOD. Removing the admin%2Fsettings%2F gives a better result, is this as it should be, how to make this change permanent?

Please help me decide between 6 & 7

Throughout the last three years I have build 5-6 sites using drupal 5 & 6, and I cant see myself using any other CMS!

I am not a programmer, but I know enough PHP to build small modules, modify and patch contributed modules and develop themes to suit my needs.

I am now prototyping on a website that needs quite a lot of functionality.
I am more or less doing everything alone, but I do have a good friend who's a programmer and willing to help me out a bit.
