Drupal 7.x

I'm stuck trying to figure out what kind of input field_view_value() is expecting for the $item parameter.

I think I know what it want,, but I can't find a way to format it such that the function actually returns what I want.

I'm trying to add the value of a (text list) field as a variable in a preprocess function. Any help would be greatly appreciated

After updating to D7 all of the core-optional modules show "not compatible". Do I need to delete them or upgrade them?

Not sure if this module may be available, tried searching but can't find anything coming up.

I manage a charity website and what I wanted to do was add a page which contains a basic outline of a UK map, ideally Google which allows me to place pin marker fore a dozen or so support groups around the country. Each pin is clickable, which when clicked opens a page about that support group, which Google Map is then showing the street on the map, and I can add text to the page about the group, i.e. times and dates etc.

Is such a module available at all?

where the heck is the dropdown alternative in Fields? I can create radiobuttons / check boxes but I can't find a dropdown alternative. I've also looked for a module for this but can't find anything.

Anyone knows?

So, I stopped in the middle of the installation process and now I can't get back in. I'm wondering if there is a way to reset to 0 or do I have to re-install Drupal? Sorry for stupid questions, I'm a total newbie at this. And I did search the documentation already.

My Drupal module shows up under admin > modules in admin but I cannot get it to show up in admin > structure > blocks. Any ideas why this isn't working?

Also are there any "good" videos / code samples I can find online in this space?
The stuff out there is mostly Drupal 5/6 and doesn't work in Drupal 7.
Would love to get my hands on a simple module sample which shows me how to display "hello world" using blocks.
