Accessing existing Database Connection through PDO

I need to access the Drupal Database by means of PDO (no Drupal API). SInce the connection is already open I would like to use it to perform my subsequent queries, instead of opening a new connection, e.g. new PDO (...). But til now I have not been able to discover how to reference the existing connection. I would like to avoid to issue a new PDO also because, sometimes, I get "too many connection" errors.
Is there a way to issue query on the existing Drupal database connection without using Drupal API, but PDO?
Thanks in adavance

Convert hard coded stuff to drupal

Hi guys, I'm in a bit lost here and I hope someone could help me. This is the situation, we were asked to maintain a drupal 7 site and the problem with this one is most of its nodes and stuff are hard coded. We have this photo and video gallery that we want to convert to views. I've managed to recreate the galleries using the views but I can't seem to recreate one of the filters that the previous web master had created. It was a select list exposed filter that contains the names of the member that has uploaded the image or the video.

SimpleNews - Where do I start?

I have all the modules installed for SimpleNews in D7, and I just want to create my first newsletter (from already created nodes) - but, I cannot for the life of me find documentation anywhere on that... I know I am just missing something very simple...

thanks for any help

Not trying to be a standards freak but, I didn't expect a fresh install with errors.

Cron doesn't correctly search for updates

Hi everybody,
I just finished installing Drupal 7.2 (standard) on my hosting service.
I have not created any content nor installed any new module, yet.
Although cron is running, I continuously get a warning in my Status Reports,
saying "No update available data". I get recommended to run cron manually
or to check for updates.
If I run cron manually, the message is still there.
If I check for update manually the box turns into green and an "Up to date" message appears.
