Are there any modules that have been created to notify users that the site will be under-going maintenance in X amount of time etc? If not I will probably go ahead and create something like this I would just much rather notify users rather than just setting the site to off line for maintenance
What would be the proper way to create a page with, two blocks, on the left will display most recent blog post, and on the right will be an about me page.
Please excuse my unfamiliarity with the correct terminology, but this is the first time I have come across Drupal and I'm learning but I haven't got the hang of it just yet.

Me and the company I work at have been using drupal since the 4.6 release as a service to our clients and ever since we have been working to work out the kinks so that the user has a true feeling of a deticated server while truely its a multi-site drupal.
One of these little annoying things was the long urls pointing to the files map, themes map, etc. You get things like /sites/domain.com/www/files/images/file wich isn't the most beautiful. Now I have found my solution in apache's mod_rewrite, I have written the following:
