$picture in Garland theme

I'm creating my own theme and I've used garland as my starting point.

In node.tpl.php there is a variable called $picture. Where does it get this from? I'd like my nodes to include pictures, but I'm a bit confused about how this all joins up.

Thanks for your help.

Richard.

Site w/ relatively static homepage, blog on /blog, categories on /blog/category/xxx, archives on /blog/archives/... possible?

I'm trying to pick my CMS. I've worked with Wordpress in the past, but am finding it can't quite do what I want. I have downloaded drupal and installed and have been poking around and reading some of the handbook, but it is less intuitive than Wordpress (to me a least).

So, my question before I get too deep is in it is whether I can build a single-user site with the following attributes using drupal (6.x):

Quick question about include files

I notice that the files in the includes folder have the extension .inc and are accessible in a web browser. This is my first installation of drupal on my own home server, and I'm trying to learn more about it. Is there something I have to do to the includes folder? Do I need to change the permissions on it?

Thanks in advance.

Trouble with Image Gallery - Link to Orginal Size

I can't seem to get the Image Gallery links below each photo to work. The links to Original, Thumbnail, and Small are not working? Any ideas?

D6: **opinions wanted > buddylist w/activity, userrelationships w/activity, or friends w/notice, or ?? (social networking??

okay, so module development is continuing for buddylist2, for activity, for user relationships, for friends/notice feed etc...

just wondering if anybody on d6 right now has already been through the exercise of picking a "best solution" for typical networking type tools....

right now i'm using friend module with the related notice feed from the same dev.

what it does: shows friends in profile, lets me add/invite friends (they get offsite notification if not registered), view pending/etc, include buddies in user profile, etc - also lets me create friend groups (work, home, club etc) and organize friends in those groups and set permissions for each group related to viewing stuff (like facebook group privacy features) - another cool feature: adds a corkboard to each user profile so if we're friends, i can go to your profile and add a little comment (like a wall on most sites) and the owner of the profile can delete a comment without any additional modules (there are some that do this for comments/nodes, but not needed with friends) also some other stuff, but that's the main part

notice feed (companion from same dev) does cool stuff: adds facebook style updates like activity, but mini - a 'minifeed' (e.g. jim has posted a new blog, jim and suzy are now friends), notifies corkboard postings (jim posted on suzy's corkboard)
