Installation issue with register globals resolution

I chatted with the tech support at IX Web Hosting that is hosting my site and this is what they said they did to fix the register globals issue. Hopefully this can be of some help.

I've created custom php.ini file with required settings.

1). First of all create .htaccess file in your domain directory and paste following code into it:

AddHandler phpini-cgi .php .htm

Action phpini-cgi /cgi-bin/php5-custom-ini.cgi

How do I disable PHP register_globals?

At the beginning, when I'm trying to get going, I have a requirements problem that says my PHP register_globals is enabled. The PHP manual is of no help as it's written in alien. Can anyone help provide a step by step solution?

I am using windows and IPage if that's at all relevant.

Thank you!!

Multisite and .cc domains

Hi all,
This isn't so much a problem as a bug that I couldn't find any documentation of on the site, so I decided to put it up to help anyone else out.

I've found that when you're running a multisite install, you can name your folders in sites as 'yoursite.com' etc for mapping, but not 'yoursite.cc'. (I had a couple of .cc sites and just got white screens.). There is an easy fix though: just do what you do when you have a local install and just map it to something else with sites.php

Installing locally?

I'm new to Drupal and thought I'd try it out! Now I'm not used to programming at all but just more simple design.
Is there any way to just "test" Drupal locally or in any other way before going live directly?

Migrating a running Drupal website from a linux server to my Localhost

Hi All,
I am a total newbie in Drupal and trying to learn it. I am trying to migrate the live version of the website and replicate on my localhost so that i dont break anything on the live version. I did not build the live version. The guy who worked here before me did it, but unfortunately no documentation on what he did.
The site uses version 6.25. It has a linux server. The database is mysql.
