Installing Drupal

I just download drupal7.26 package

It is installed in https://mydomain/geo/drupal-7.26
Since it is in a subdirectory I modified .htaccess to set rewriteBase like this
RewriteBase /geo/drupal-7.26
mod_rewrite is ON since I use it for other web applications
I restarted apache

in settings.php, I set base_url
$base_url = 'https://mydomain/geo/drupal-7.26';

after registering I receive the email in reply

"Thank you for registering at Drupal. Your application for an account is
currently pending approval. Once it has been approved, you will receive
another e-mail containing information about how to log in, set your password,
and other details." Its been four days and I have recived nothing. Am I missing something or does it usually take this long to receive approval. I want to get started but am frustrate by delay

When installing drupal 7.26 it only gives me the option to use a SQlite database. the option to choose for a MYsql database is not shown. What did I do wrong?

I have a multi site architecture, and a new site I want to install has an installation profile. This profile is specific to this site only. Where do I put the installation profile so that it's available to only this site and not others? What would the directory structure look like under sites/mysite.domain.com?

I'm a Drupal newbie and this Aegir thing is driving me nuts.

I am able to run it locally on my box, but there are some things I just don't get. Here are some.

1. From the Server Tab, I have two items: aegir.local and localhost... Both are pointing to the same resources, but the list shows them as follows:

aegir.local :: Database (No) :: Web (nginx)
localhost :: Database (mysql) :: Web (no)
