Installing Drupal

hi guys this is my first post on drupal.org :))

I saw drupal one month ago and after some test on local installation, I decided to install drupal on the web with php 4 feature and apache2 in a linux server.

The first error was an "internal server error 500" so I saw the server log and it was an error of .htaccess configuration. I searched a tips on drupal forum and so I modified the .htaccess correctly.

My out of the box drupal site looked OK when I viewed it on my Linux system with Firefox, Epiphany and Konqueror, but when I looked at it from a friend's Windows XP machine it was almost unrecognisable and barely usable. The neat boxes had been lost and there were seriffed fonts which I don't see often on web pages these days.

Do other people have problems with Internet Explorer and how can they be handled?

There is a duplicate entry, after assigning a question to an user or a role.
Does anybody knows this problem and knows how to solve it?

We have just installed www.londonaquarium.co.uk on a dedicated redhat server with 512mb. We are getting about 2000 hits a day, and the server is going down. MySQL is becoming inaccessible, then Apache and then even the shell.

Is this a drupal issue, or simply Drupal needs more power?
Most stuff is served to the anonymous user.

I'm not a programmer, so wandered if anybody could help us?

after removing .htaccess all works fine, but i think this is not secure

(Not quite an "install" problem, but I didn't know where else to start the forum topic.)

This is weird. Everything was working fine (a local install). I'd only begun configuring and adding modules, but hadn't done much yet. Then, all I could get was a blank page. I thought to try scrapping it all and starting over since I hadn't done much. Again, everything went smoothly and worked great for a little while, then back to blank page again.

I tried visiting a page other than the front page. On first load they would show up, but once I refreshed, it would not.

That made me think it was a cache setting gone funny, so I cleared out the cache db table, and that would indeed temporarily allow the page to show up, until it was cached again.
