Hey,
a few weeks ago our production site suddenly started redirecting users to the core/install.php page out of the blue. Without any deploy or changes in infrastructure, the problem started to occur more and more up until every single page request was directed towards the core/install page.
After a cache clear, the issue was resolved for a short while, but it always comes back after some minutes-hours.
We reviewed our LAMP stack (max_allowed_packets, disk spaces, processes, load ...) but nothing solved the problem.
Stack is a load-balanced AWS infrastructure (different web nodes, 1 db node) with memcache.
When we disable memcache, the problem only appears once every few hours, with memcache enabled the issue arises all the time, so probably memcache is a catalyst rather then a cause for the huge spike.
Seems not load-related, as we have +- the same number of occurences at 4 am as we have at 5 pm for example.
What we did try:
- Catch requests to core/install.php and throw a 404 page (to exclude bots from indexing / crawling this page and exclude them)
- Disable memcache / change memcache version
- Review MySQL settings
- Review most common google results for this problem
- Different memcache strategies (different tables in memcache vs mysql cache)
- Upgrade Drupal to the latest minor
- Reverted Drupal to an earlier version
But we're kinda clueless lately + running the site without memcache for the moment as this minimises the problem for now.

cilefen commentedWhen debugging an issue like this, I would consider all the places in the codebase where 'install.php' is mentioned:
At just a guess, it's in DrupalKernel::handle and Database::getConnectionInfo returns false for some reason.

The Drupal Core issue queue is not the ideal place for support requests. Consider other sources of support.
