Since about 8.6.5, after carrying out a standard core update on a number of sites, a number of pages return a 404 (page not found) error.

Update.php is correctly run without error. However when tested post update a number of pages cannot be found.

Clearing cache resolves the problem, but am wonder why we need to do this as we never needed to do this before.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Apologies if this is a duplicate issue.

I'm not certain this relates to these various issues as they all seem to tie into multi-language sites. The sites I'm having trouble with are English only with the region set to Australia. It's possible there is some correlation with the issues listed in the various posts, but I'm surprised that as of 8.7.6 this is still an issue and that any resulting patches haven't been rolled into the latest production version of Drupal.

Posts associated with #2834638: ERROR 404 after a while, clear cache fixes it are a few years old and go back to 8.5

This issue has only recently presented itself on a number of sites that we've had for a few year now, so I suspect it's something new in 8.6.x or 8.7.x

Thanks for responding though.

Anyone else experiencing this recently on sites that previous had no issues and aren't multi-lingual?

Just confirming that every time we run the update.php script a number of pages (always the same) return 404 error.

Clearing cache resolves the issue and the missing pages return.

Is not one else experiencing this?

Version: 8.7.6 » 8.7.x-dev

Core issues are now filed against the dev versions where changes will be made. Document the specific release you are using in your issue comment. More information about choosing a version.

Version: 8.7.x-dev » 8.9.x-dev

Drupal 8.8.7 was released on June 3, 2020 and is the final full bugfix release for the Drupal 8.8.x series. Branches prior to 8.8.x are not supported, and Drupal 8.8.x will not receive any further development aside from security fixes. Sites should prepare to update to Drupal 8.9.0 or Drupal 9.0.0 for ongoing support.

Bug reports should be targeted against the 8.9.x-dev branch from now on, and new development or disruptive changes should be targeted against the 9.1.x-dev branch. For more information see the Drupal 8 and 9 minor version schedule and the Allowed changes during the Drupal 8 and 9 release cycles.

Version: 8.9.x-dev » 9.2.x-dev

Drupal 8 is end-of-life as of November 17, 2021. There will not be further changes made to Drupal 8. Bugfixes are now made to the 9.3.x and higher branches only. For more information see the Drupal core minor version schedule and the Allowed changes during the Drupal core release cycle.
