Hello,
After inspiration by other events and some discussion over email after the last forum announcement we now have 5+ people planning to get together.
When: March 20th 2006, starting at 2:00PM (MST) (916 in swatch time)
Where: Paris on the Platte (gmap)
Agenda:
1. General introductions and "how I use Drupal"
2. Demos - event+, mailing list related tools
3. anything else? and "close"
4. Bug squashing - for those interested
The first three parts we expect everyone to stick around which is why we have a fixed start time. Step 3 includes a "close" where people can leave if they want. Beyond that, we will be doing some bug fixing (squashing!) to try and help improve 4.7, perhaps do some work on improving Events since Chad and I are both interested in it.
We will likely have more events in the future based upon the success of this event. If you can't make this one, just wait a month or two. If you have any questions or want to let me know that you are coming feel free to post here or contact me.

I think Drupal should have a
I think Drupal should have a church chapter in every locality with a secret order of drupal-clerics/-evangelists... j/k. But it is great to this kind of thing happening more frequently and happening in new places. Good luck and amen.

There are 10 types of people in the world, the ones who know binary and the ones who don't.
I sympathize
Bindu,
I sympathize with your situation - after posting the initial "interest check" forum post, there were several people who wanted night-time, some day time, and some who didn't care. We can't satisfy everyone all of the time, so we just chose this time/location for the first meeting - I'm sorry you can't make the first portion :( I've contacted you using your drupal contact form with further details so you can call me before you drive down and check to see if it's worth your time.
I can say for certain that I am interested in a second meeting and I know that some other people are interested in a second meeting as well. That one will probably be in the Boulder area and we can probably do it later in the day as well.
Regards,
Greg

Over in Grand Junction
We would love to come over and be involved in this group. We aren't developers, but are extremely interested in the Drupal product and seeing it succeed. We relaunched our site with Drupal in December. Please keep the forums notified of when the next User Grou will be.

Rick,
Rick,
We will certainly post a followup on the topic and post the next meeting here in the forum. If you send me a contact note, I'll add you to the emails I have for local Drupal developers. Also, you may want to add yourself in here: http://www.frappr.com/drupalusers
Cheers,
Greg

Big, BIG storm is supposed
Big, BIG storm is supposed to arrive in Denver on the 20th - I would prefer to reschedule the date, also to make the time at 7PM for those with day jobs.
I'm really looking forward to networking with other Denver and Colorado Drupallers! WooHoo!

"Please drupal responsibly: give as much help as you get."
yeah...
Hi,
So, for those following local weather reports or this forum topic you know that Denver is supposed to get a fair amount of snow tonight and tomorrow. I don't plan to reschedule because I don't think this storm is going to be that big of a deal. Now, (looks at Chad) if this location is too far under mild snow that's completely understandable.
I'll be there - 2:00 tomorrow at Paris on the Platte coffee side (as opposed to wine side). If you can make it, great, if not, no worries because...
Rest assured that due to a generally positive response I WILL be sending out another forum post & email in a few weeks to try to organize the next event at a more northern destination (i.e. Boulder) and at a later time. I got contacted by lots more people, mostly with a "that day won't work, but I'm interested".
So, if you can make it tomorrow great! Same details & agenda as previously advertised. If you can't, "see you next time..."
Happy Sunday,
Greg

Ok, I've staked out a table in the back room. Plenty of network cables and power cords.

event review
By all accounts that voiced them, this event was a success.
There were 10 people sitting around the table chatting and such. The majority of the people were relatively new users which provided good insight into the perspective of relatively new users.
One of the most common comments/questions was "there are frequently 5 or 6 different modules that do similar things, how do I find the best module?". Another question was "I tried a module and it worked poorly, how do I find modules that are high quality." Hopefully some of the improvements to the project module (categorization, various quality metric characteristics) that have been implemented and being discussed for the updated drupal.org will help solve that problem. Another "solution" to finding the best module when several might work is improved documentation and comparisons of different modules such as this handbook page from Kieran that discusses the different event modules http://drupal.org/node/50287 I discussed different strategies to finding high quality in a blog post on "what next" after installing drupal: http://growingventuresolutions.com/fed/drupal-installed-now-what-an-intr...
Chad and I also discussed some udpates to Signup and he implemented new hooks in the signup module
Since there was so much interest we will definitely have another event. Most people seemed to agree that a monthly time frame was reasonable, so the next meeting will probably be somewhere around April 20th, in the evening, and closer up towards Boulder. Recommendations on exact dates/locations are welcome as comments here.

I'd love to come, but
I'd love to come, but "closer up towards Boulder" makes it a nearly two hour drive for me, which is not possible on weeknights. Central Denver is a better option if you truly want the user group to be for the Front Range. :)
Alternately, are there any other Colorado Springs folks around that would like to start our own group for down here?
Provide your input on the groups
movielady - I just posted a "call for input" for the next meeting so head on over to http://groups.drupal.org/denver and let everyone know what you think.
Here is the call for input on the next Denver Meetup.
If you are interested in starting a CSprings group here was the process I followed to get Denver folks together:
1. Post in this event forum (and ask someone to promote it to the front page)
2. Search around for "drupal denver" or "civicspace denver" or "drupal colorado" and emailed as many of the site developers that I could find and asked those people to invite along their friends as well
3. Once you've decide on a location and time, post again and publish it to the front page as well
That's it! At both of the past Denver meetups we had ~12 people so there are folks out there who are interested. If you put together a CSprings event be sure to let me know as I'd be happy to drive down and chat with folks.
