The teaser of one of my articles was way too long. Even after readjusting them to 200 words (from 400) the teaser was still more than 200 words. So I went into the database and shortened it. After I made some mods to the article, the teaser was recreated but again way too long. Why was it still more than 200 words?

not sure why this is happening, but one way to easily trim your teasers is to insert:

<!-- break -->

and it will chop your teaser off there.

I assume this goes into the html code?
Or can I post this directly with TinyMCE without it showing up in the actual text?

I think it works without spaces: <!--break-->

I believe that when the teaser length is adjusted it only affects new nodes. The teaser length is set upon node creation not display. Therefore, if you go back and edit then submit each node again it should adjust to the new length.

Of course this is not too big a deal if you only need to fix a few. I am not sure if there is an easier way if you have a great many nodes to re-submit.

As I wrote in the original post, that was exactly what I did. I edited the node and resubmitted it and the teaser was too long again (after I had cut it in the database).

I've searched all over Drupal, and the idea keeps being raised that resubmitting your node will fix this problem. And people keep saying it doesn't work. Many people have complained that the trim length setting seems to do nothing. Someone even submitted a patch for a reduced trim length (say, to 25, 50, or 100 characters), but this patch doesn't work in 4.6.

This specific idea of putting <--break--> (no spaces) in your copy at the place you want the break to occur is the first and only thing that works in 4.6. That is, unless someone has something else that I haven't seen mentioned anywhere. Lots of us have been doing lots of searching.

I'm really hoping the whole notion of teasers, link lists, and the like will be addressed in 4.7. We need something that is comprehensive (e.g., turn off author and submission date in teaser, but turn it on in story), and that actually works.
