You could ask them ...
Or maybe ask them (or whoever created the site) to create a showcase posting http://drupal.org/forum/25 - gives them some publicity (http://drupal.org/node/add/forum and under Categories - Forum choose "Drupal showcase" ... actually looks like you've already found it!).
Also have a look at the page source. There will be lots of clues, e.g. in the names of CSS and JS files (thankfully they've not turned CSS aggregation on ... yet ... so yo can see the full filenames).
Many more clues in the ids and classes of elements on the page, e.g. the search thingy has a forms e.g. with id=views_filters_search_all so this looks like a special views search module ... The JS to switch between different search contexts may be custom ... not sure if it's a module or not. (The AJAX is a bit slow though :-P !!)
Good luck,

>How do find out if a site is based on drupal ?
1. If you have a suspicion that a site uses Drupal
2. Check the page source for clues

It's Drupal

I've found the easiest way to find out if a site is using Drupal is to check builtwith.com

I had to wait a couple of minutes for the website to load as well, I even thought it was down.

Most people won't wait even 15 seconds before they'll figure "the website must be down", let stand one minute.

I must say I'm not impressed by the lay-out either: clearly another Drupal-site like many others. Pretty much chaotic and careless too. Agreed, the separate graphic elements enjoyed more attention on this one. But that's about it.

Next please!

The load time was fine for me, but I would agree wuth knalstaff about the layout. The site is far too busy with too much squeezed onto the page

that site looks good, but too much of information.

yeah, it seems they have made it on drupal using the zen theme. But there are a lot of modifications, at least for the authentication part. They have /int something as their login and register paths which is a clear indication of core modification.

I don't like how they're squashing the images on the frontpage.
It's the first thing I noticed, makes it look unprofessional.
Overall I think it's good.

I prefer http://www.breathtakingathens.com/ - it's similar but nicer (I think)
