# Summary

This module integrates the wonderful Owl Carousel slider built by OwlFonk. The primary module is comprised of three sub modules providing a views style, field formatter & administration UI. The administration form leverages the variable module providing multilingual support out of the box.

It looks like a few of the D8 APIs have changed since this was written. Is anyone actively working on this at the moment? If so I would love to collaborate and help get this module running on the current version of D8 and if not, I would be happy to assign this issue to me and do some work on it to get it running again.

Thanks!

I have forked the project here: https://github.com/Eric115/owlcarousel and will make some PRs back to the github repo in the description down the track.

Was planning for Flickity to be the D8 successor for Owl Carousel. There are a number of reasons for this; the original author of Owl has left the project and theres confusion over what library to use (smashingboxes version etc). For 2.x; management of a possible infinite number of responsive settings makes the UI a burden, would be great to have fresh eyes on this. Regardless when the github repo has reached an alpha state I'll add you as a maintainer for Owl. Please let me know if you would like to discuss a development roadmap.

Thanks for the update on this @swim, I wasn't aware of the Flickity module and the potential problems with the D8 port for owl carousel.
I will take a look over this and see what I can do. My spare time is running a bit low at the moment, so it may be a little while before I can get this to an alpha-ready state. If you wanted to have a chat about a roadmap for this, that would be great - although as you mentioned the break points could be a problem, we may need to look at how that is being solved for D8 on some other contrib modules? As far as I'm aware the core breakpoint module doesn't have any useable UI to solve this issue. I have rolled a custom solution to adding in any number of breakpoints in the past to solve this issue, but that's obviously not an ideal approach for keeping inline with the community :)
Open to ideas on that one, but I will need to look into it some more as well.

There is also a D8 owl carousel module here: https://github.com/tabvn/owl – not sure why it's not on drupal.org.
The flickity library is nice but it's not free for commercial projects. That's kind of a hassle for a simple slider and it's nowhere near as feature rich as other commercial sliders like revolution slider and layer slider.

I moved to Flexslider for D8 since Flickity is not free for commercial projects.
https://www.drupal.org/project/flexslider with the patch from https://www.drupal.org/node/2844208.

I've used flexslider but like the responsive options available with owl so I really hope this project gets ported to D8. In addition, Owl works well with video embeds without requiring a plugin.

There is a working decent port here - https://github.com/tabvn/owl

However, there is a licensing confusion. I raised an issue here - https://github.com/tabvn/owl/issues/4

anish.a’s picture

The author had agreed on the project to be included in d.o and relicensed to GPLv2.

I have my WIP cleanup here - https://github.com/anishsheela/owlcarousel

The module is working as of now. I need some help in completing cleanup and submit the 8.x version.

Hey Anish.a, I am adding some feedback PRs to your github repo. Looks like a great start though!

Hello Eric,

I have accepted your PRs. I have still some doubts. Can you ping me on email to discuss further (aneesh dot nl at gmail dot com) ?

Sure thing, I will do some more in-depth reviewing when I have some more time as well.

Cheers

Delighted to know this module will be available here soon for D8. I think this module is one of the best for building responsive website. Thanks everyone to make it happen!

Hi @anish.a, great work! I am a co-maintainer of Owl in d.o. I would love to get your version of the module committed and do a proper D8 release. Will add some details to the Github issue queue.
