[references_dialog] References dialog

Seems like this is another module that will be deprecated by the upcoming entity browser?

@Berdir: That would be great, but i don't think so. While using entity_browser we can select existing entities. But the part of creating new entities right in our reference field in a popups with all it's fields needs to be done also. Do you have an idea how to solve this in D8 for now?
I didn't find any module providing this functionality besides references_dialog that needs to be ported for that purpose.

Entity browser already has integration for uploading a new file and then using that. In the same way, it should be possible to build a plugin that displays an entity form and allows to create an entity through that.

Oh that sounds great. I didn't have such a deep look in the module. Just tested it on a my dev environment to check the current features.

I've tried entity browser but it's doesn't work right now. I can't configure entity browser, because seems I should create it and select for my field, but I don't understand how to do it. Without selection of the entity browser I've receiving fatal error on the page of creating the node.

But module inline_entity_form solved my problem for my D8 site. I've used 8.x-1.0-alpha3

Yes, Inline Entity Form works, but there isn't the nice modal dialog of References Dialog. In my opinion, the usability of References Dialog is much better, especially if you work with nested entities. (Simple example, three node types: book review, book, book author; during the creation of the book review, you add the book, and during this step, you create the book author. Works really good with RD, not so good with IEF.)

References Dialog 7.x has been very helpful to me, and I would like to use a 8.x version. Would also be glad to help with testing or documentation. As far I can see on the project page, WorldFallz is the active module maintainer at the moment. @WorldFallz, what do you think of porting References Dialog to Drupal 8?

I think we are a big step further by combining Entity Browser IEF (submodule of entity_browser) within a entity_browser tab.
I gave it a try a try and could build tabbed selection and create modal for a reference field widget.

For creating a custom entity_browser display, you have to visit the admin/config/content/entity_browser page of your drupal installation. There you can create new browsers or have a look on the existing configuration. In the "Widgets" display you would add an inline-entity-form and select bundle / entitytype via configuration.
On my testing environment i got an error while adding a new entity via IEF, but it's just a matter of time and some debugging to figure out, how it would work correctly.

Still sorely missing references_dialog in D9.

Entity Browser is OK but it shows the already selected entries in grid format. Which is fine for media but not at all for nodes. There is a forever ticket to solve this at https://www.drupal.org/project/entity_browser/issues/2973457
Contrib modules like https://www.drupal.org/project/entity_browser_table and https://www.drupal.org/project/entity_browser_vertical address the issue just superficially, using CSS.

IEF is for inline editing, so it's a stretch to use it. And anyway the grid format is unavoidable.

References Dialog module was simple and had very much sense indeed. Hope it will one day come to D9+ ...
