michelleI'll help where I'm able as well. I've been wanting to do this port for the last year but it was just such an overwhelming project to take on by myself and I have limited free time. I kept hoping we'd get a client request so I could do it on work time for it but no dice. I'm allowed some time at work for contrib, though, so can direct that towards helping out once I've finished up Author Pane.

infopicard commentedHi podarok,
I'm looking forward to any progress - do you have an estimated time schedule?
platinum1 commentedHello @podarok,
We are interested to hear about progress too. We can also help testing.
paintingguy commentedI'm debating migrating a large xenForo forum to D8. Would this solve my need for a more advanced looking forum module?

michelleI personally wouldn't advise moving from a dedicated forum unless you have a need to tightly integrate the forum content with a Drupal site. While AF improves Drupal's core forums, it's no match for a dedicated forum system. Its advantage lies in having your forum content be Drupal content for seamless integration but it lacks a lot of features compared to forum software.
platinum1 commentedUnfortunately, the March 4 Dev build results in a fatal error...
podarokyup, because code is not ready yet for been used
Comment #16
mgiffordComment #17
platinum1 commented@podarok That is obvious!
I expected that parts of the module do not work. I did not expect a DEV build of the module uploaded here to take down the site with a fatal error...
mgiffordGot any fatal errors to post with this? Just WSOD or do you have something from the
Apache logs? This is in D8 I am assuming...
platinum1 commentedYes, the error was on D8.0.5
I initially posted the error message on https://www.drupal.org/node/2682315
For simplicity sake I will copy it here:
[07-Mar-2016 07:54:34 Europe/Zurich] PHP Fatal error: Cannot use Drupal\Component\Utility\String as String because 'String' is a special class name in /home/solution/public_html/my-domain.com/modules/contrib/advanced_forum/src/Form/AdminSettingsForm.php on line 14
[07-Mar-2016 07:54:34 Europe/Zurich] PHP Warning: Leaked 2 hashtable iterators in Unknown on line 0

podarokI did not expect a DEV build of the module uploaded here to take down the site with a fatal error...DEV modules are all about crashing sites )))
So do not try them on production, please
Comment #21
arfff commentedNo comments for 10 months. No progress noted for almost a year.
Been waiting on D8 upgrade on site for this module.
Can we assume this is a dead project now??
Thanks
Comment #22
shreya shetty commentedAnyone working on this still??
mosher13 commentedLooking into adding some 'advanced' forum features to our current D8 member website(s). Would like to know the progress of this project and what is needed to re-start/continue progress on this module. There are several modules that extend forums in D6 & D7 that are awaiting this Module Port so they can begin updating theirs.
Development Team, Can you please provide the Drupal Community a status update on your progress? If there are any blockers or resources needed to continue the progress to release status for this module. Thanks in advance for all your hard work on this great Extension to Drupal.
michelleThere shouldn't be anything dependent on AF. AF is just a wrapper on the core forums to make it easier to style and add some features. Other modules that extend forum can continue to do so as forum is in core so is already in D8.
I haven't heard anything on the port. I haven't been actively involved with the module for some time. I know there were some people working on it but there hasn't been any updates in some time.
Alex Andrascu commentedWe have carried out some extra development work for this module on top of the great work that's been happening on github and we're probably ok to contribute it back. This will probably get it to at least an alpha release.
Can the maintainers suggest what would be the best way of doing it ? Open a PR on github ? Do it directly on d.o ?
dolcaer commentedAs the last update has been a few months; What's the progress and status? This is one of the major blocking modules for our upgrade to Drupal 8.
brunodbo@Alex Andrascu: Would be great if you could share the work you did, so we can try to move this forward. Probably the best way for now is creating a PR on GitHub, since that's where the work is being organized.
michelleI'm the original author of the module but I have no need for a forum anymore and no free time. There have been others doing work on it but that seems to have stalled. If anyone wants to move this forward, that would be great.

avpadernoComment #31
avpadernoThe project does not have releases for supported Drupal versions.
lostcarpark commentedI don't think there has been any work on Advanced Forum for many years.
The Forum module is now in the contrib space, and does seem to be receiving some attention. I think a better goal might be to make Forum more like Advanced Forum than revamp this project.
