Have you made any progress on this already? I and Neetu Morwani (www.drupal.org/u/neetu-morwani) have started the development of this module. Let me know if we can collaborate and work on this together.

I have pushed the code on do and created the 8.x-2.x development snapshot of the module as well.

Just a note for people who need a 8.x module for a social bookmarking service who don't necessarily want to use ShareThis: Share Message offers similar functionality.

There is a stable release (3.0.2).
