Problem/Motivation
When creating menus, users are unable to preview where the menus are located.
Proposed resolution
Provide a demo/preview page for menus similar to the blocks demo page.
Remaining tasks
- List the major challenges
- Propose solutions to the challenges
According to post #3, a preview of the location of a menu would be a very challenging task. One reason for this is that menu blocks can be controlled by other modules like Panels and Quicktabs.
User interface changes
- add Preview menu link(s) to /admin/structure/menu
- add Preview menu link(s) to /admin/structure/menu/manage/"menu name"/edit
API changes

(for legacy issues whose initial post was not the issue summary)
Throughout testing, users had an expectation to have live, visually-oriented previews of their options. Several participants specifically requested this for menus. Two other observations were connected with this task (since we believed solving the menu preview would also solve the other issues).
- Difficulty differentiating between menus and menu items led to particpants' difficulty creating or moving menu items.
- After adding a menu link to the navigation menu, the new link is not noticed. Without noticing it, users think it failed.
Possible recommendation was:
Provide visual representation of different menus.

Can you elaborate on that please.

Where the block's demo page gives a clue where block's are, we do not have a similar concept for demo of menu's.

Jeff Burnz CreditAttribution: Jeff Burnz commentedSo how would this work?I chatted with Bojhan about this and he clarified things for me - the idea would be to allow the content creator to preview where the menu was being output - so imagine the Regions preview page but with each region populated with its menus, or maybe just this one menu the user wants to know about. I said that I think there are significant challenges in producing such a preview not least of which that its complicated by other modules being able to control blocks - such as Panels and Quicktabs.Comment #4
