Every year around this time, the organizers of South by Southwest (SXSW) solicit the opinions of the online community about what sessions to include in their annual Interactive Festival. SXSW is a popular festival and conference held every spring in Austin, Texas, dedicated to bringing together creative indviduals from around the world to celebrate the newest ideas in music, film, and interactive technology.
Not only does the main SXSW Web site run Drupal, but for the last few years, SXSW has featured a number of well-attended Drupal-related sessions. Because SXSW attracts a different audience than Drupalcon, it's a great opportunity to introduce Drupal to folks who may not otherwise be familiar with it. 2008's Content Management System Roundup panel helped Zappos.com decide to start using Drupal, and this year's Ultimate Showdown of Content Management System Destiny, which featured Drupal, Joomla! and Wordpress pitted against each other in an "Iron Chef"-style competition, attracted an overflow audience and generated great buzz for all three open source platforms.
A number of really great session proposals that are either Drupal-related or would be presented by well-known figures in the Drupal community have been suggested for next year's Interactive Festival, which will run March 12-16, 2010. Even if you're not planning to attend SXSW, you have the opportunity to register your support for these proposals by going to the Panel Picker, which is a Web site that allows you to review, vote for, and comment on all of the more than 2000 panel proposals. The festival's organizers take feedback from this site into account when making their decisions for which panels are included in the final program. The Panel Picker will be open until September 4, and the final panel selections will be announced starting in October.
If you’re interested in having Drupal represented at SXSW, providing positive feedback for these session proposals is a great and easy way to show your support. And if we've missed any, let us know in the comments below:
