Is The eJournal Module best for our Newspaper?

We are looking to move our site from a Coldfusion/SQL Server to Drupal, but before I can get our existing articles (all 16,000 or so of them) moved over (you'll probably see more Forum questions from me on this later), I need to work out what will be the best way to structure the setup. Hopefully somebody has an idea or two.

We are a weekly newspaper and so the articles are produced outside the web workflow and come in for web input as text files. We cut and paste (for now) each article into our current content management system (CMS), specifying a section/subsection, the headline, the contributor, an abstract (generally the first paragraph of the body) and a body. We also 'attach' a thumbnail and a full size image to the story. Pretty standard CMS stuff.

As we are a weekly newspaper however, we only update the site as each Thursday as the new issue hits the streets. This means we have an Activation Date/Time and an Expiry Date/Time. The way it currently works is we just add a new Issue number to an Issue table in our database and give it an Activation Date/Time and an Expiry Date/Time. In practice, all this means is that when we go to enter a story, we already have default Activation and Expiry. Our site then relies on a SQL statement to present any current content by default and drop everything else in Archives. We can also change any Expiry Date/Time in case we want a story to remain 'current'. Hope that makes sense. Perhaps you can see what I mean if you visit our site: http://www.straight.com

Mambo to Drupal Convert w/ a couple questions.

Howdy. I am moving my way over to drupal from mambo and have a few questions I am having a hard time getting resolved. First question is in mambo you can organize the way your content was displayed on the site for example list view, blog view etc. Currently drupal is displaying content items in a list form, which is great for my needs, but the problem i am having is its giving a summary of the content in the list. I would just like the titles of the content items displayed in a list. My next question is there a way to format the content creation page's view of Taxonomy terms? Currently its displaying each primary term with a drop down list of its child terms next to it. This is fine if you only have a few terms, but the list of taxonomy terms, sections and categories, I have in mambo is very long. It would be nice to mimic what mambo does in their content creation page, having two drop down boxes. One box has a list of the parent terms and when you select a parent term, the second box is populated with its children. I can picture this would be something easy to hack in my self, but it would be nice to know if there was a plug in for this or something. My last question involves a specific module, the Administrator module. This module gives you a nice GUI lay over for the admin section. It works fine and dandy for the little I have tested it out except for one part, the module installer page. When I click the link to go to the page I get a page not found error. This function is important because I need to make the page as easy to manage as possible. Does anyone know how to get this page to work?

EZ publish compared to Drupal

Has anyone here any experience in developing with EZ publish CSM (www.ez.no). My boss wanted me to start learning EZ, so that they could offer sites build with EZ publish. (Now why would anyone not want to use Drupal.. :P )
So I wonder if anyone have any experience with EZ developing aswell as Drupal, and could tell me if it is as easy to get into developing on that platform as it is for Drupal.
Or maybe give me som good arguments for ditching EZ.

Cerating "Landing Pages" in Drupal

I am currently in the process of moving a website into Drupal. However, the website I'm moving has a lot of "Landing Pages" that are used in marketing campaigns. These landing pages do not contain any of the elements that would be found on the other pages (i.e. Primary Links, menu, etc.) and whose look and structure would be completely different from the main site.

What would be the best way to replicate the "Landing Page" functionality in Drupal?

Thanks for your help.

Converting phpbb to drupal, and merging with existing site

Hi guys, I have what seems to be a difficult task ahead of me. I need to convert a phpbb forum to drupal (I just want users and posts, no uploads of fancy features), and then merge it with a drupal site that already exists and has nodes. To add to this, the phpbb is a modded version called Vitrax pre-modded.

So anyway got a rough Idea of how I should do this. I have no real mysql experience but I have set up a server to test this on and I don't mind learning.

Thanks in advance

Alan
