ScoutShop.com: I want a thriving site for Scouts of all ages and of both sexes and I have the right domain to get the job done.
Many years ago, I started buying domains fairly regularly and ended up with over 300 domains by 1998. By that time, some of the domains had appreciated noticeably. I had some good ones that I gave away to non profit organizations because I simply bought their domain names and it made me feel good giving them away. I would always buy the first three series: com, net and org. I made a little money with some of domains. I subspecialty lost some highly valuable ones wit out any satisfactory explanation from register.com.
Today I have a few that perhaps are not as valuable as the first crop I bought. But I get steady and regular calls asking me if I want to sell them. I recently decided to work on a few of them but one at a time. The first one is BoyScout.com, which interestingly enough I offered to give to them in the mid 1990’s and they refused me. I go ahead and give a couple more examples of what I have. Realwine.com and the net and org. I'l just wait to mention the others.
Here is my question and respectful request for help. I would like to develop a lively community for those that are interested in scouting both young and old and both man and woman. I wouldn’t want to get out of control like myspace but do what to have all the attractions that people that have a love for the outdoors would want when they think of hitting their favorite mountain trail or pitching a tent next to their favorite fishing hole.
I would love to have an ecommerce solution but I am held back by two concerns. One, I don’t want to make it too commercial; and Two, I don’t know how to start looking for suppliers and working out all the logistical issues of running such an enterprise.
I have a site in the late 1990’s with the name of scoutpost.com and I has over 30,000 member scouts. I advertised in the Boy Scout magazines monthly and I sold enough adverting to manage making some money. However, the Boy Scouts of America stopped accepting my ads and convinced to close it since they claimed that pedophiles were frequenting my site. They never provided me with any proof but the possibility of such a thing going on compelled me to close it. Soon after, I mysteriously lost the three scoutpost domains from under register.com nose.
