Theme development

Hey All,

New to Drupal, coming from the WordPress world, doing my best to learn and get going with Drupal.

I am working on a blog theme that will have 5 locations on the homepage to Feature an article. I need the authors of the blog to be able to set an article in one of those 5 spots and each spot can only contain one article at a time.

i m using Drupal 7.26.i m new to drupal.
last two days,i m tryting to ti install theme developer module in drupal..But when i enabled it is hows some error message.
like "fatal error: simple_html_dom not found".
for theme developer to work i also installed "Devel module" and "simple html dom module too".

please guys help me as i cant go ahead with this issue.

I am trying to understand what my options are for styling the node/add form. I am using the Adminimal theme as my administration theme but would still like to tweak some styling. Some of my questions are:

I'm trying to make my own Drupal theme using Zen, but I'm a novice web designer and got stuck too much.

My main problem right now is that after making main menu buttons bigger (Using a fixed heigh and adding a 10px left/right padding) and giving some ':hover' property the only clickable area is where the button's text is, not the whole

I would like to know how I would use an image map as my front page instead of the theme's default front page. I am new to drupal and could really use the help.
