new drupal site on debian testing

Nothing special about the look of this site - I'm using the standard blue theme. I won't change it until I can get around to it. But I wanted to point people to the howto I wrote to get drupal running on the current debian testing. Not a big feat, but maybe it will save somebody time.

The site is www.dimmeria.com - and the howto is my first article: http://www.dimmeria.com/?q=node/1 .

I'd like to thank the drupal community for a thus far kickass product.

Drupal is best of breed

There is a story running at ZDnet about Oracle buying a company. The author thinks Oracle could just overnight jump from one license to the other and doesnt seem to know a lot about this at all. However, that is not the point. The point is that the author wants to make clear that this can have impact on software that uses MySQL. And while he could pick any project, he picked the best, Drupal!

Makes websites from a Drupal powered site

I was wondering around and found this interesting Drupal powered site - http://www.turbosm.com/
I'm not connected with it, so don't know what powers it all (module wise) but I thought the idea behind it sounded interesting.

Theme is a spin on the pushbutton theme - which links in with its service offering.

PoopReport.com goes Drupal

Hello everyone,

As seems customary, I'd like to introduce my site as a recent Drupal convert. PoopReport.com is dedicated to the intellectual appreciation of poop humor. We offer stories, consumer reports, advice, and intelligent analysis on topics relevant to every single human being on Earth. (http://www.poopreport.com/about.html for more info. Safe for work.)

The site has been around since 2000 and gets about 5000 unique visitors every day. With 2500+ HTML pages plus 35,000 user comments in a custom-designed database, the challange of moving to a CMS was daunting. I certainly wasn't up for it. However, drupal user nevets -- AKA Steve Ringwood from Nevets Software (nevetssoftware@tds.net) -- certainly was. He came on as a consultant. For four weeks we worked to:

- design a custom theme identical to the look and feel of my old site
- parse 2500+ HTML pages and move over the appropriate content into drupal, retaining both the URL and the categories of each article, fixing any weird HTML, and making the author of each article a registered user
- automate the front page of the site to post both static and dynamic content, including the four most recent nodes as well as nodes from this date in history
- distribute the 35,000 user comments into the 2500 pieces of content brought over, assigning comments to registered users when possible
