I just finished preparing a complete rebuild of a directory using drupal. The site is for professionals and is not yet public (the old site is public). I used drupal because it was flexible (for multiple editors), had the modules I wanted, it was open source and robust. Previously the site was in vanilla html. I tried Joomla (too heavy on graphics and not a good fit for me) and seriously considered plone at one point (zope servers are rare in my price range). The site is at:
Development has officially begun for the future online memorial web application. The app is to be officially powered by Drupal 5.0.
"At Fallen Asleep, you can not only create an online memorial for your loved one, but also share your emotions with others who are either suffering or have suffered through a similar situation. Best of all, every basic feature is free of charge. This includes creating a basic memorial, adding a few pictures, joining a support group, sharing your struggles with others, and much more. ".
Gorton Studios has just launched a new site for the Center for Spirituality and Healing at the University of Minnesota called Taking Charge of your Health

Take a look at this site: http://www.maposfera.org/
It's a Polish website for a level designers, but let's don't care about the content - tell me what you think about the look.
I guess it may look bad in some browser - so far I've checked only IE6, FireFox 2 and Opera 9. Opera has problems with the opacity (performance wise), hopefully it will be fixed with a next release, and IE doesn't support png correctly so the site looks slighty different. So, FireFox is recommended.
I started studying Drupal a month ago. I got my website www.mathpotd.org (K12 Math Problem of the Day) running today. It has been a very exciting experience. I think Drupal is a great system and people here really make a great community.
