Drupal is up and running but how do I ...?

File System Path

Did a clean install to the CVS 4.4 release. Everything looks good except in config it is not accecpting my dir entry for /files it accepted the /tmp dir but it does not like the /files entry.

Extending user information

I read somewhere (and I can't find it now...) that it's possible to add new attributes to user profiles, and to add new fields to the signup page. I'd like to add a 'referred by' field, so new users can give credit to existing users who referred them to the site.

Can someone point me to the relevant Drupal APIs for this? I'm new to Drupal but not to PHP or SQL, so I'm looking forward to getting into the code.

Thanks!

How to remove timestamp and posted by info from pages

I'm trying to duplicate a static site in Drupal. I've started adding static pages and linking to them using the menu module. One thing I'd like to change is to remove the "Submitted by..." and the timestamp info from the top of each page. Can this be done?

Thanks,

Ryan

Where is page header in 4.4?

After upgrading to version 4.4 I realise that page header seems to be gone.

Or is that due to some misconfiguration on my part?

Creating pages and sub pages?

Hi there,

I've just installed Drupal and am trying to wrap my head around its methodologies. I'm trying to duplicate the scructure of a static site and want to create static pages and sub pages. I want to use the menu module, I believe, to create a hierarchical menu block instead of using the links across the top of the page.

My question is should I be creating stories with my page content in them or static pages? What's the difference? Assuming I create a static page in Drupal, can I give it a parent? Does Drupal keep track of hierarchies like that?

Personalized Post Login Screens

Is there a way to change what nodes users are redirected to after login. Instead of each user going to "/user/", can it be could configured for each user?
