Drupal is up and running but how do I ...?

Problem accessing Modules

I have Drupal 4.5 installed and running. Everything checks out fine, everything works . . except modules. I have reinstalled several times from scratch, with the same result each time.

The system (BSD) is running PHP4 and meets all requirements. .htaccess is properly modified. I can add users, add and change content, change config, change themes, and otherwise perform all functions. mod_rewrite is working fine.

Menu Visablity

Hi,

Im new to drupal, and i've got some questions.... i have just installed drupal and got the default welcome page up and running where it askes me to create the default user and stuff liek that... however when i login as the default user and go to edit settings i get not menu bar on the left hand side.. should this be the case or shoudl ti be displaying the menu?

The web address is development.digitaldelinquent.net

Alternate front page

I've noticed that several prominent sites like drupal.org, spreadfirefox.com have alternate front pages. I realize I can create my own front page as a static page and subdir drupal, or create a new module, but both of these seem rather overkill. All I want to do is do what the drupal and spreadfirefox sites do, which is

NOT have the breadcrumb

have some static content

have a listing of a few of the newest posts

and otherwise use the sidebar(s) that the rest of the drupal site does.

Is it possible to do this without reinventing the whole node module?

User Registration defined User Status

Is it easily possible to have a form object in the user registration process that would define what type a user would be once they are registered?

What I am looking to do is create a site for the residents of a town to work together on site and communicate with other residents, but I only want residents to have certain privlages compared to normal users, like tourists or business people.

taxonomy feeds

I'm running Drupal 4.5. I'm trying to generate RSS feeds using the url syntax that is mentioned on this site:

If I try navigating to:
http://www.gonzotravel.net/?q=taxonomy/feed/or/9,10,17

I just get a 404 Page not Found error.

Any ideas what is wrong?

Block Management

Hello Friends,

Question: I know that one can specify on which pages certain Blocks will appear (via the Path field in administer->blocks). I am wondering if I can specify that certain blocks only appear under certain taxonomy categories...
