I've been checking out drupal for a few days.
So far I like what I see. However what made me decide to check it out was that I stumbled across :
Drupal clone of Slashdot? and also someone at phpweblog.org suggested drupal.
Slashcode would actually provide me with the functionality that I want, but we don't run mod_perl on our site. A number of PHP clones of slashcode seem to have ceased active development. We can run perl via CGI and have been using Moveable Type for about a year. However the comment system is awful. We've tried to improve it with some really cool stuff from scriptygoodness.com. However even after all that the comment system is still bad.
Anyway, I'm looking at drupal now. I really like how it is so much more than what Moveable Type is. (all it needs to be a complete web portal managment is an ability to have a wiki and to add a calendar) .
Now the last few days I've been trying to figure out how to configure drupal to offer Slashdot style comment moderation. So far drupal has decided to do everything but that :-(
I've enabled a number of modules including comment and queue. I went to comments/configure and set up settings, moderation matrix, moderation roles, moderation thresholds, moderation votes.
Now the best I'm able to have happen is that the user can slect from a dropdown which has a list of possible moderation votes then click on "Moderate Comments" After this the moderation votes dropdown disappears but it doesn't seem like any of that information is captured. Moderation scores don't seem to be displayed. There doesn't seem to be any way to limit how many comments a user can vote on or when they get their "Mod poitns" (just to use a Slashdot term).
