Drupal is up and running but how do I ...?

How do I make primary links that are not nodes?

I was wondering, after visiting http://www.moby.com, on how to do do two things:

1) The main page is an image.
2) Most of the links (journal, music, news) do not lead to nodes (ex: http://www.moby.com/journal)

Is there a way to do this?

Thanks for reading.

Check User's Login Against Allowed IPs

I'm looking for a way to check the user's IP against a set IP when they log in. I want to do this as an extra layer of security over their passwords alone. All the users that I want to set this security on have static IP addresses so managing the IPs is not an issue but a few of them will need to be able to login from multiple IPs on the same account.

Is there any way for me to do this in Drupal currently? If not, would it be difficult to implement?

Filtering content for anonymous users

Hi,
Background
I've just picked up Drupal to investigate whether or not it has the capability I am looking for. I've spent a good week now going through the handbook, installing (and re-installing) modules and themes to become familar with Drupal. I also bought the book "Building Online Communities with Drupal, phphBB and WordPress" (2006, Robert T. Douglas, Mike Little, and Jared W Smith).

Unfortunately I still haven't found a solution to my issue.

But before I submit my issue, I would like to clarify my position. I am a business analyst/project manager by trade and have not written any code for some 20 years. My guys who work with me tell me to stay away from their code...lol.

Solutions without using code
I believe that the architecture of Drupal is superior to other CMS because you do not need to be a developer to get a fairly complex community site. This gives web sites using Drupal a huge advantage.

I know my issue can be resolved by written PHP code but I want to try and avoid this as I want to recommend Drupal to other small businesses who know nothing about coding.

So what is the web site meant to do?
My web site is a 'community of communities' where you are not required to register or log in (anonymous users). The very basic concept is that the user selects a community from the homepage which then links through to the homepage of that community. Every community has the same menu structure on the left hand side (LHN).

event calendar skips a month

I thought I was losing my events when advancing through the calendar view, till I noticed it was skipping February at times.

If I start viewing my calendar at /event It displays the month January 2006

then click to advance the month it skips to March

/event/2006/03/01/month/all/all/1

if from there I click to go back a month it shows February.

/event/2006/02/01/month/all/all/1

if I click to go back again it shows January

/event/2006/01/01/month/all/all/1

Is there a way to automatically notify new users when their registration has been approved?

On my site I have elected to have new user registrations require approval from one of the admins. It works great, but I've been manually sending registrants emails when I approve their registration, as Drupal doesn't seem to notify them automatically when I approve them. Is there any way to have Drupal do this for me automatically?

Thanks!
