SQL errors coming up recently in my drupal database...why?

This just started over the last 3 or 4 days, but I notice that the calendar archive is off. Meaning it displays content for a date in the future. March 28th to be exact. Anytime I see this, I go and run a check on my sql database and I get the following errors: (removed the actual name of the database)

databasename.accesslog
warning : 4 clients are using or haven't closed the table properly
status : OK

databasename.cache
warning : 3 clients are using or haven't closed the table properly
status : OK

Upload picture doesn't work, gives me "empty" picture

I have tried to upload a picture but somewhere there is a problem.
I can open the uploadmodule. I can choose a picture and select upload.
But when the picture is uploaded there seems to be no connection and the picture itself is not found. It is uploaded in my files/images directory but I can not se it through Drupal.
I have enabled
folksonmy
img_assist
image
upload

I have also all the permissions I need.
What can the problem be?

how do I create content that includes default text?

How would I go about creating content that would, when submitted:

1. display default text, such as a label? For example
Received On: 3/2/06
where "Received On:" would be the label and the date would be the user generated content

2. insert user generated content into a default text template, similar to a mailmerge operation in wordprocessin?

I split this into two questions because I thought there might be an easy way to deal with "1." simply by having php print the label from the CCK create content field names.

Performance problems, timeouts, and deadlocks

Hi,

I'm evaluating Drupal 4.6 for use with some slightly larger amounts of content; currently, I'm working with something around 11.000 nodes, and Drupal is beginning to become inaccessible and unusable; pages take at least 30 seconds to load, it starts to happen on a quite reguar basis that they don't load at all anymore, and very often newly added content (via 'create content') times out or deadlocks when posting the form in the web browser. Before reaching 10.000 nodes, Drupal was working slow (approx 16 sec. loading time per page, some administrative features inaccessible due to timeouts, e.g. menu administration), but generally reliable and - more importantly - predictable. However, there seems to be a drastic limit or some kind of performance issue kicking in quite suddenly by utilizing a combination of low-end-hardware and a large amount of content.

What I would like to know is (a) if this behaviour is to be expected, and (b) if there is something I can do to get the site up and running again. Upgrading the hardware is planned on the long run, but not possible at the moment (my hosting contract runs for several months and can't be upgraded; I'm stuck with this hardware for the next few months); another general problem with hardware upgrades is, that I don't have any idea, which resources Drupal *really* needs for a smooth and reliable operation; I've read the hardware specs for drupal.org, but a configuration like this is beyond my financial capabilities.
