I am definitely new at this stuff, but I've been able to futz my way around Drupal so far without too many issues. But now I have two continuing problems that are starting to become critical because my website usage is suddenly growing quickly and these issues are making life difficult for me and my users.

1. cron is not working anymore. For a week or two after installing Drupal cron appeared to work fine and updated my search results so people could do searches on my site. Now it has just stopped working. With all the new content on my site since it was last successfully run, people are having a helluva time finding stuff, and that's not good. I posted details about my setup in a previous posting, but got no results:

(is there something else I can do to index my site if I can't get cron to work?)
2. I cannot for the life of me get email working. There's something fundamental that I'm missing, I'm sure of it. I currently have the website installed on my own Linux server in my home office using a cable internet connection. Other sites on the server (I'm running virtual hosting) seem to work fine with email, but not Drupal. There was about 1 day when I accidentally got it working, but then it just stopped again. It's really frustrating me. What can I do to make my Drupal installation use my normal email service (like vincedee@comcast.net) instead of whatever it's trying to do right now (which I suspect is trying to use the email server on my web server machine)?
