Drupal is up and running but how do I ...?

URLALIASing upon user registration

Upon a successful registration, I would like to automatically alias
http://www.example.com/blog/4 (4 is just an example)
to
http://www.example.com/blog/john (john is username for uid=4)

I dont give my users access to urlalias. So I would like to control and fix their aliasing that way. How can this be done? Code snipper pls. TIA.

Can someone explain what the dir.lock file does and what permissions it should have?

I've been chasing down a problem with Acidfree where certain files would cause huge lists of errors. After three days of trying everything I can think of, I figured out that changing the permissions on the dir.lock file in the files/tmp/acidfree folder to 766 fixes the problem. But, I don't really know what that means, if I've opened up a security hole, or if this is something I need to change on the dir.lock files in other folders.

Can someone who understands the dir.lock file give me a rundown on what it does?

using mission with a secondary front page

The front_page modules disables the display of the site's mission statement. This is fine except when using the module to display a separate non-themed splash screen. Then the mission statement is not shown on the home page at the regular site. In this case there are, in effect, two front pages - there's the splash screen and then there's the first page displayed at the regular Drupal-themed site. I would like the mission statement to be displayed on the home page just like stories that are "promoted to the front_page" are.

How to change the front end of Category Module

Hi all,
Hi, i'm using the category module to build this site http://www.cust-art.com/ (very early stages), and I want the gallery section to look very different (i couldnt find anywhere to upload a file on this forum, so you can see mockups here: http://www.cust-art.com/gallerymockup1 or http://www.cust-art.com/gallerymockup2.

My question is, what is the best way to go about doing this?

Naming Anonymous comments

I have my drupal site set up with anonymous commenting but all there is is a comment box, with no seperate box to enter a name. This makes it all very confusing as to who's posting because everyone just shows up under the name "Anonymous"
Is there any way to add a name box so that the commenters name will show up with the comment?

user interaction with nodes

Hi,

I am currently thinking how to accomplish the following:

I want to create a site where products can be compared. Users shall be able to add vendors and their products (so that one vendor can have multiple products). These are basis for comparison, so there should be some kind of check, that it is valid. I thought that 3 other users would have to confirm the correctness of this and then this could be activated.
Then the users should be able to comment and rate the products, but that can be covered by other modules that already exist.
