Drupal is up and running but how do I ...?

i'm sooooooo confused!

i'm playing around with drupal 5.1...and no sooner do i figure out how one thing works, then i get lost with 5 more things. i just feel like i'm just not "getting" drupal right now. i'm banging my head against a wall. and so far most of the stuff i'm reading just isn't explaining things for me. i'm not a developer or a programmer or anyone that has a head for the kind of things that people are talking about. i need drupal for dummies!

and i'm not a stupid person...i have figured out many other programs...just nothing this technical, if that's the right word. so much that i read on the forums are so above me that i might as well be reading a foreign language. i'm getting seriously close to giving up completely and going back to joomla, which seemed less complicated for my brain (though even that had its moments for me)...but i'm determined to give drupal more time and see if i can't still sort through it.

ok so is there anyone that can help me out here? i have so many questions...lets start with taxonomy.

i've read a lot about taxonomy and still cannot seem to wrap my brain around it. and i'm not sure how it relates to the menus and such. i've tried to get categories to show in the menu and so far its not working.

Addding users

I am trying to make a site for teachers and their students. Is there a way to allow an administrator to add new users by creating their username and password. For example, this would allow a teacher to enter his/her student's usernames and passwords.

Thanks for any help!

Signup link with CCK

Hi all,
I'm trying to write a small signup system for a community website. Signup in terms of event signup,
rather then subscription to a node. I aware of the existence of the signup module for the event module,
but I'm wondering if it is possible to realize the same functionality with CCK.

Forcing RSS feed (views_rss) to use teaser instead of body...

I have created a custom content type with CCK that has around 30 or so fields. On one of the views I've created to display the nodes for this new content type, I've got it creating an RSS feed with views_rss module. The problem is, the feed tries to list out all the fields which is kind of obnoxious to say the least since there are so many fields. Is there a way to make it show the teaser instead?

Anonymous user can not post to forum

This use to work, but now when an Anonymous user tries to post to a forum, it does not work (access denied), even when they are active under access control. Don't know if it has anything to do with the move from 4.7.2 to 4.7.6.

forum_access module - "No forums defined"

Bummer! This module is absolutely perfect for what I needed but after setting permissions by role for a bunch of forums (member, staff, board, etc) nobody but me as admin can see anything, just the dreaded "No forums define".

I disabled forum_access to no avail even after rebuilding node permissions.

Any ideas? I haven't read of anybody else experiencing this particular problem.

Thank you in advance...

Michael Hamilton
