Quick Links - Best Practice

Greetings, I was hoping some of you brilliant folk could shed light on a monster of a website I've been tasked with updating. First of all, it's a Drupal 5 site so I'm in the process of upgrading but they need a new theme as well and I think the company that made it for them "learned" Drupal on this project so parts may be duct taped or glue-coded together. So... I'm wondering if there's a best practice for the way Quick Links are implemented per-page (Not sure what keywords I would even use to search for this).

Not Supported

Hello.. I'm trying to update all my modules, so that I can upgrade from 5 to 6. Some of my modules say "Not Supported" when I run status update. If I click on the link it shows the module available in 6, but no longer in 5. So what do I do? Just download the latest 6 version after I upgrade? Sorry.. newbie here. Thanks

TinyMCE does not show up for super admin

Hi guys,

After an upgrade (among other modules, wysiwyg) TinyMCE does not show up anymore when logged in as super admin (first user created).

Drupal 7.0 fails: parse error

I just untarred Drupal 7.0, and tried it, and got:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '{' in /home3/orangepa/public_html/drupal-7.0/includes/bootstrap.inc on line 677

I did copy the settings.php file, and it changed nothing.

cp -piv sites/default/default.settings.php sites/default/settings.php

Any ideas, or should I stick with version 6.20, which did install and is running, apparently correctly?

HELP! something went wrong from 6 to 7

so i was upgrading my site from drupal 6 to drupal 7. i followed the upgrade text and changed the settings.php file to allow free update but when i navigate to the file it doesn't seem to do anything and when i navigate to the site i get:

Notice: Use of undefined constant DRUPAL_ROOT - assumed 'DRUPAL_ROOT' in /home/content/t/x/s/txssp/html/includes/bootstrap.inc on line 2094

Warning: require_once(DRUPAL_ROOT/includes/errors.inc) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/content/t/x/s/txssp/html/includes/bootstrap.inc on line 2094

backing up and upgrading

Hello drupal forum,
I've never performed a drupal upgrade before, first off. Second, I need to change the theme of a website and figured that would be a good time to upgrade my drupal core to 7 from 6. What should I do to prepare? Since the theme is changing, the most important information is the form information, page content, modules, etc. Eh, I hope I'm not being too confusing...Any help is appreciated :)
