Upgrading Drupal

I keep getting warnings that some modules need to be updated.
I have updated the modules manually by uploading them through FTP. I even deleted the old modules' folder before. It detects that I have a previous version even though when I open the module.info file on the server the version number is the latest one.
This happens for the following modules : (detected version / latest version)
Chaos tool suite (ctools) 7.x-1.0 7.x-1.2
Pathauto 7.x-1.0 7.x-1.2
Token 7.x-1.0-rc1 7.x-1.2
I also tried cleaning the update cache, to no avail.

I finally managed - after many errors/road blocks - to upgrade my site to Drupal 7.15. But now the entire navigation is broken - I can get to the home page, but that's it. If i select any of the navigation items or if i try to select any of the admin links I get a page not found error. The site is completely broken - do i need to revert to 7.14 and start over? Or is there a way to correct this in the database?

1. Can someone help me with selecting the forum elements using SQL on the Drupal 5 website core forum

I had some module updates to do. So I took the site offline, changed settings.php to $update_free_access = TRUE, uploaded the module changes (to the correct directory, I double-checked), navigated to {domain}/update.php, clicked "Update"...

and got a Server or File not Found error (in Opera).

I tried from other browsers, from other computers using different ISPs, couldn't connect at all. I restored the Drupal database from a backup. I thought I had a backup of the site files as well, but I don't.

I think that the server is hosed, but my hosting tech support is saying they don't support Drupal.

I tried to update from 7.12 to 7.15, but I can't run update.php.

It keeps reloading the Overview page, when I hit the Continue button, albeit with new tokens in the URL each time.

Anyone else having this problem?
