Drupal 8.x

I'm new to Drupal, however I've designed other sites in the past using various applications. I've been poking around and learning what Drupal 8 has to offer and trying to use just Drupal 8 and a text editor. From what I have discovered there are several things that are not accessible to edit from the Drupal 8 "toolkit".

I get this message every time i try to go to Configuration, and People  in Drupal. 

I installed a code per google so I can see the errors, however I don't know how to post it here, as the forum wont let me.

While many themes have several scrolling banner images on the front page, Zymphonies Landing Page just has one: Hero page.

I’d like to add more: is this possible?  Is it a matter of editing some file in the theme folder instead, since you can’t do it in the admin menu?

I have the Symfonies Landing theme on a D8 site.

I have created blocks in the right sidebar with things like recent comments, new forum topics, which looks fine on a normal content page, but look awful on the front ‘page’:  I have the whole sidebar and a string of white space under the main banner.

how can I set these blocks so they do not appear on the front page?  Thanks....

I've built and maintained ~ a dozen D7 and D8 websites over the last decade, but have never tried to move a site from localhost to live, and it isn't going smoothly.
