Drupal 8.x

What can I do to improve the speed of my small Drupal 8 site?

How can I be sure the caching system is even working? I can live with slowness on the admin side if I have to but it shouldn't take forever to load a simple page.

This is a new installation, not an upgrade. It runs on Bluehost shared hosting, but is also slow on my local development server which runs D7 much faster.

All content that I do NOT want to be promoted to the front page IS being promoted to the front page and visa versa.
Consequently I am having to tick the box "promoted to front page" if I do not want content to do that.
It was working fine until I created a content type and a view.
However I have disabled the view and it still happens.
i have changed the default theme and it still happens.
I have updated to 8.03 and it still happens
I am using Acquia devdesktop on windows 10

lets say we have to Content Types: "A" and "B".
Content Type "A" has only one field: "a_field_1" of typ "Entity Reference"
Content Type "B" has 2 fields: b_field_1 and b_field_2 of type Text or something else..

I am looking to recreate a business website. It needs to be refreshed and I was wondering if Drupal would be the best fit. I know I am going to have a learning curve and that is ok. This would be the first big site I have done for anyone (but anything would be an improvement to their current site.

It will probably be a basic site outlining everything the business does. The site may also have some sort of signup sheet and an Online store.

Any advice would be great!
