Before you start

Hey guys,
I just want to say I have been using Drupal for about 4-5 months now and I love it, i have switched back a forth from CMS to CMS for various reasons.

I just finally want to get a platform down that I like. So I have used a few different CMS's:
Drupal - I like Drupal as it is Open Source (I'm a big fan of Open Source, for many reasons) it's very easy to customize, theme, publish content upload things etc.

Joomla - Much the same as Drupal, it's just another one I tried.

Dolphin - I like Dolphin due to it is very slick, it uses java alot for the fading and has user profile built in at installation. The chat feature is nice everything just works. The parts I don't like is that you cannot upload files (.rar, .zip), lack of plug-ins.

I love them all they all have extremely good features, but sadly the features I like are spread out through the three CMS's which, needless to say is a pain. So here it goes, this is what I want my site to have.

Users should be able to add each other as friends, be able to send PM's to other users, have a blog, have their own profile where they can upload pictures, videos and files.

We have a requirement for a browser accessible system that:

1. Allow users to add/modify/create filters.
2. Allow all users to sort a table of 500+ records using one of the filters.
3. Store the results of the sorted table.
4. Submit those results to an external api?

I work with a large company there may be as many as 30,000 users and I have been tasked with evaluating CMS's for this system.

I was wondering if its possible to make a site that stores peoples informaiton like Contacts, Bookmarks, Calendars, and Tasks. I would like each user to have there own information. I know there are scripts out there for this but I havn't found any real good ones yet. So I thought Drupal might have some modules for this but couldn't find any so I thought I would ask.

I want to create a web site for pets buying / selling. I have done installation of drupal and created a very simple sample module and it worked fine. Still, I'm confused how to go about using drupal for my need.

I'm thinking I may need to do the following steps to start with.

1. Create a Node specific to my application. The Node will have Pet name, Pet age, gender, breed, photo, etc. details.
2. Create a Module that will allow some user actions such as Post Pet for Sale, Buy Pet, etc.

Any guidance please?

Hi All,
I am new to Drupal. Can you please provide me insight on following and help me in understanding drupal capabilities much better.

We need to create an application, like ebay.com, where we have shopping cart and others are j2ee applications.
Also, we want content to be edited by business users, like say offers, images, content and we are planning to use drupal for that purpose.

It’s a application we need to build from scratch.
